Dog Fence Guide: Keeping Your Canine Safe and Secure

Dog Fence Guide: Keeping Your Canine Safe and Secure

Do you have a canine escape artist who sees your fence as just a minor hurdle, or an enthusiastic gardener who regularly "replants" your flower beds? Traditional methods often fail, but electronic dog fences offer a modern, safe, and aesthetic solution without the need to ruin your garden with barbed wire.

How does it work?

1. Transmitter: Placed in a dry area, it sends a signal through the wire.
2. Antenna Wire: An insulated wire forms an invisible boundary underground or along your existing fence.
3. Receiver: The dog's collar warns them that they are leaving the designated area, first with a sound/vibration and then with an electrostatic pulse.

Frequently Asked Questions (Q&A)

Can I install the wire on an existing wire mesh fence?
Yes, an existing wire fence does not interfere with the signal of the electronic fence and can easily be used as a support. You can simply attach the insulated wire to the mesh using zip ties. The wire only carries a signal, not electric current, so it is safe for both you and the fence itself. This method saves you the time you would otherwise spend digging the wire into the ground.
Will the electrostatic pulse hurt my dog?
This is certainly not animal cruelty. Quality fences work with several levels of warning: first, an acoustic signal or vibration sounds. Only if the dog ignores the warning do they receive a correction pulse. The pulse level on modern devices can be sensitively adjusted so that the dog reacts to it, but it does not cause pain. In practice, dogs very quickly realize the connection and soon only the acoustic warning is enough to stop them.
What age and which dogs are these fences suitable for?
Electronic fences are recommended for use with dogs from about 6 months of age. At this time, the dog is already capable of understanding cause and effect and can successfully complete a short training session at the property boundaries. Regarding size, invisible fences can be used for all breeds and property sizes. It is only important to choose the correct receiver size for the collar and the corresponding pulse strength.
How difficult is the installation and what do I need?
Connecting the system itself is very simple. You plug the transmitter into the mains and run the wire to enclose your property in a closed loop. The time required depends on whether you lay the wire on the ground, attach it to a fence, or bury it for aesthetic reasons (approx. 3-5 cm deep). Before putting the collar on the dog, we recommend walking the garden with the receiver in hand to test the width of the warning zone, which can be set on the transmitter from 30 cm to 10 meters.
